Regional State And Capital Worksheets

regional state and capital worksheets

This is it! The final unit in our regional state and capital worksheets!  It's not going to be an easy one though.  In this lesson, your child will be focusing on the western region of the United States.  That means eleven different states!

We will be covering the state locations on the map, their capital cities, and each state's abbreviation.  The states covered in this section are:

  1. Alaska
  2. California
  3. Colorado
  4. Hawaii
  5. Idaho
  6. Montana
  7. Nevada
  8. Oregon
  9. Utah
  10. Washington
  11. Wyoming

For worksheets covering the state capitals and abbreviations of the rest of the state regions (northeast, southeast, midwest, southwest), be sure to check out the related lessons at the bottom of this page.  Let's get started on the Western United States!

West Regional State and Capital Worksheets

There are nine different worksheets to choose from below.  The first printable is a simple study guide that you can print out and use to first introduce the western region states and capitals to your child.  It shows all of the states for this region and where they appear on the map.  I would recommend showing your child a map so they can better understand where exactly Alaska and Hawaii are.  This online world map shows where both states are located.

The next three activities are all similar.  You will see a map with all of the names removed from the states.  Each name is replaced with a number.  Below the map is a list of all the states.  Next to each state is an empty box.  Write the number of the state in the box next to its name.

In the fifth worksheet all of the states are labeled by name.  Underneath each name there is an empty box.  Write the correct abbreviation in the box provided.

The next paper will build upon the previous use of abbreviations.  This time each state is labeled by its two-letter abbreviation.  Below the map is a list of all the state capitals.  Write the capital name underneath the correct abbrev.

The last three western regional state and capital worksheets will focus on the capitals.  Each state is labeled with a number.  Below the map is a list of all of the state capitals.  Next to each city is an empty box.  In each box, write the number of the state that the city is in.
